Sometimes you're lucky enough to find yourself surrounded by people who make you strive to be a better person -- more creative, more intuitive, and simply more passionate about what you yourself are capable of doing. Brooke, of Glen and Effie, is one of those people to me. She came to me not too long ago and asked if I'd create something for her to add a punch to the packaging of her gorgeous vintage jewelry. Of course I was thrilled!

We bounced ideas off of each other and came up with this beauty of a design! Now turned into a reusable stamp, Brooke can hand stamp a whimsy message on all of her beauties as they head out to new homes!

Thanks again for the opportunity to work on fun and inspiring projects with you, Brooke!

There is only one room in the apartment that gets amazing natural light. The light was pouring in the other evening, so I jumped at the chance to get a few fresh product shots before it disappeared!

Guest blogging for Glen & Effie!

Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorites! Not necessarily because I loved the idea of being showered with candy, roses, and jewelry -- although if a Glen & Effie piece had been handed in my direction a time or two that may have explained my love for the holiday. My true appreciation for the day came about because it was a time I got to exchange love notes with all those I truly cared about. Each year I'd get more and more elaborate and began discover that I had it in me to make a pretty breathtaking Valentine -- and not some drugstore bought piece of cardboard. Bleh!
Picture
My favorite part of the Valentine is without a doubt how it's packaged. Before moving to NYC I had no idea that there were whole stores dedicated to paper and envelopes. Shapes, sizes, and colors are endless! Do you want it to open from the side or top, triangle or flat? Should it seal shut or be drawn closed by wrapping a thread around a button? The little things are the details that make your Valentine realize you care enough to line the inside of the envelope with pretty floral paper -- What? You don't do that?!
Picture
The stamps. Have you ever thought about the stamps? Stamps are like the pretty jewels Brooke finds and incorporates into her pieces. Vintage stamps to be exact. You can purchase colorful, vintage stamps from flea markets, antique stores, and my personal go-to -- Etsy! Be sure that you buy unused stamps. If they're already stamped (like number 6 above), they're not good for mailing. Just cluster a few together in the upper right hand corner of your envelope and voila! You'll have the prettiest piece of mail you ever did see.
Picture
But of course, the words your write should come from your heart. The reason I put so much emphasis on the envelope and packaging of my Valentine's is because I want the words to speak for themselves -- no competition from glitter, stickers, and ribbons! I personally handwrite all my letters. I want my Valentine to imagine me sitting down and writing each and every word with love. It doesn't have to be perfect penmanship, just perfectly you.

I hope you have a love-filled Valentine's Day! xoxo

Baxter & Bailey x Glen & Effie

It sure has been quiet around here for a while. I like to blame "life" when I slack off and don't get around to blogging, but let's be honest -- sometimes other things in life take priority. But, I'm back and can't wait to share with you what has been going on!

Over the summer, while interning at URBN, I had the privilege of becoming dear friends with Brooke Griffith, the amazingly talented owner and designer of Glen & Effie - vintage jewelry. Her pieces are breathtaking and would all be living in my jewelry box if I ruled the world... some day.

Brooke flew up to NYC from Nashville to co-host a trunk show with me at my apartment in the West Village of Manhattan. Baxter & Bailey x Glen & Effie. It was a great turn out with lots of wine, snacks, jewelry, prints, and tons of laughs. I wish we could do it every weekend!

Doe Run Farm | An afternoon with URBN's power couple

Last week 25 interns were chosen to spend the day at the personal and private farm of URBN Inc's co-founders/CEOs -- Dick and Meg Hayne. I was fortunate enough to be asked to come along and can honestly say it is one of the highlights of my summer thus far! The grounds were impeccably beautiful, the food delicious, and the hosts extremely gracious and personable. It was surreal to be sitting directly across from the brilliant minds behind URBN at lunch! Dick took us for a tour of the grounds, the animal barns, and the cheese-making barn before we sat down at a giant harvest table to have lunch and conversation about ourselves and the company we all love! The weather could not have been more perfect -- just helping to make the day even greater! I am so thankful I got to share it with some of the greatest people I have literally ever met. Just take a look for yourself -- I wish you could've been there too!

This summer is something out of a dream. Seriously. I wish I could share every minute of every day with you! Something I've been having a lot of fun with has been my role as Terrain's brand blogger. It's challenging and fun to come up with a topic and photos to cover a new, relevant post every week to share on URBN College Scout's social media outlets. See my first two posts here and here. Be sure to follow along all summer!

The other day we had a tiny photo shoot for the feature that was going to be posted on all of the intern brand bloggers. The Q&A's were posted on the company's intranet for all the URBN employees to check out. I cut out my part of the post to share with you!

*just as a note: in the last question my response should say, "I'm not trying to earn brownie points..." How it is written now makes me look like a major teacher's pet!

When you stop being a rotten teenager you find that your parents are actually some of the best people there are -- at least that's what I've found. It may seem like my parents pay me to write good things about them (I mean come on, Mom got a whole post over here!)... but in actuality, I do it because I love them.

Another thing you find when you're no longer a rotten teenager and have been in college for a few years is your high school friends don't tend to be 'home' much anymore. When you are, they aren't. When they are, you aren't. It's a constant game of tag. But the friends that are always there with arms wide open are your parents, well, my parents at least.

So, now that school is over (correction, one more blasted day.) I had a few days at home... with my parents... and Baxter. I'm soaking up all this family time because in just about one week I'm headed to Philly for the summer. Words cannot express how EXCITED I am!

But today -- let's talk about today. Not next week, not 'during the summer', let's talk today. Today was good. Brunch. Momma time. New nail polish. And flowers. Lots and lots of flowers. Mom and I visited our favorite nursery in the area and loaded up our cart with lots of snazzy new plants to dress up the garden with. That Momma of mine has got a green thumb and I love when she includes me in on what to grow next!

I snapped while she collected the pretty flowers... and of course I got my feet in there for a few. ;) Hope you had a bright, sunny, flower-filled Sunday too!

There's two things we should all be thankful for right this very second.

First, that I am not in PA with access to all of our family photo albums. You should be thankful for that because that would mean this post would be exponentially longer... to the infinite degree longer. I, however, should be thankful I'm not in PA because it means I have successfully avoided being sucked into an extensive process that goes a little something like this -- 'flip through the photo album - find worthy picture - take picture out of photo album - take picture of picture with cell phone - put photo back in photo album - crop photo in phone - save photo in phone - adjust the lighting, coloring, and straighten the photo - resave photo in phone - email photo to myself (5 at a time ONLY, says the angry email app) - save photo on computer - upload photo... yadda, yadda, yadda'. Repeat as many times as needed. Ooph, that could be a lot.

Second, that my mom is the best mom in the entire world. Okay, that may be a thing only I am thankful for... but it's the truth. I don't really want to be all sappy right now, I've had an emotional couple days, but what keeps me moving forward is that I get to go home and spend time with my Momma (fine, and you too Dad!) in just two short sleeps. She's the one who keeps reminding me of that and always at the times I need her words the most. Even though she's the tiniest one in the family now, she certainly has the biggest heart, the best advice, and the warmest hugs. I love you Mom as much as all the city lights I see out my window (x infinity) plus the number of times the crickets creek all night long during the summer nights back home (x infinity + 1). You better believe that's a lot -- you'll never top that one!

Happy Mother's Day (posted a day late), Mom. Xoxo.

My life is really only cool when people come to visit me. You and I both would've thought that since I live in NYC I get to do cool things every single day. Wrong. I probably could, but I don't because life gets in the way. I have school, homework, an apartment to clean, dinner to cook, grocery shopping to do... I just get to do all of that in one of the coolest cities in the world! But when I have visitors, especially when it's Justin, you can be sure that we will do something worth blogging! Like brunch at the cutest place I've ever stumbled upon. Or like wandering around the Lower East Side in search of hipster-ish craft beer stores (yes, there really are hipster-ish craft beer stores). Or coincidentally turning down the street that the most delicious cupcake ever to walk this Earth lives on! Hanging with J is always so much fun, full of laughs, and definitely yummy food! Thanks for coming, J-Man xoxo
